The Minor Mosquito AA Chiefs continued their strong start to the season with another tournament win at the Tecumseh Summer Blast. After being rained out Friday night, the Chiefs would be forced to play 3 games with no rest between on Saturday, starting with a tough LaSalle squad. In that game, strong pitching and defense would lead to a tight 2-0 win. In the 2nd game, the Chiefs made a strong comeback, but the host Tecumseh Rangers held on for the 9-8 victory after Whitby had the winning run on 2nd base. In game 3, the Chiefs found their bats, beating Belle River in a 4-inning mercy.

On Championship Sunday, the boys would be faced with Brampton in the semis. After giving up an early lead, their bats would take over the game, helping cruise to a victory and berth in the finals against host Tecumseh. Looking for redemption, the Chiefs jumped out to an early lead, and continued to pad it throughout the game. Strong pitching, timely hitting, along with excellent defense and base running would lead to an 8-2 victory over Tecumseh. “I couldn’t be more proud of our boys. They battled the heat, injuries, and a very busy schedule after the rain Friday night, to beat a very strong, well-coached Tecumseh Rangers team. The boys stepped up, and filled holes at SS and C after injuries forced us to make changes,” said head coach Paul Lawrence after the win.

The Chiefs will look to continue their strong play as EOBA league play continues this week with games against Ajax and Clarington.
