This weekend the Whitby Chiefs Senior Rookie A team played in the Aurora King Jays 2019 Father’s Day Classic.

The Chiefs went undefeated in their first four games beating the Ajax Spartans 16-2, Stouffville Yankees 16-10, Aurora King Jays 20-5 and the Richmond Hill Phoenix 10-3.

That moved them into the semi-finals where they faced another undefeated team, the Halton Hills Eagles, who had mercied every team they played.  Halton Hills were a tier one team who could hit and field well.  Twice, Whitby fell behind by seven runs in an inning only to battle back.  Down by three runs going into the seventh, the Chiefs held the Eagles scoreless for the first time all game.  With the bases loaded and two outs, a game changing triple was hit to tie the game.  This was followed by another solid hit to pull out a win by a walk off run.

The final score was 20-19, putting Whitby through to the finals against another 5 and 0 team, the Bolton Braves.  Early on Whitby dominated allowing only two runs, in the first inning.  Whitby mercied Bolton after the fifth inning winning 13-2 and taking home the championship trophy!!  It was a great Father’s Day for all the coaches and team Dads.

This is their second tournament of the season (they placed second in Woodstock in May).  Go Chiefs!
