Midget Select team are Champions of the MSBA Select Tournament

Updated Thursday July 18, 2019 by Whitby Minor Baseball Association.

The Midget Reds participated in the Mississauga South Select Tournament this weekend (July 5-7).  It didn't take long for teams to realize the Reds came to win.  Outscoring opponents 33-2 on route to a 3-0 round robin record and the #1 seed heading in Sunday.   The Reds rolled to the final with a convincing 11-1 semi-final win over Martingrove, setting up a rematch with the Brampton Royals.

Earlier this year,  in the Semi -Finals of their home tournament the Royals rallied from 4 runs down in the final inning to eliminate the Reds.  We were ready for the rematch.  The Red's found themselves down by 4 runs in the bottom of the seventh and it looked like the Royals had our number again.  The Reds did not give up, it was our turn to come back!!!  The offence put pressure on the Royals defence with timely hitting and very aggressive baserunning, fighting back to tie and force extra innings.  In the bottom of the 9th the Whitby Reds walked off the Brampton Royals to bring the championship home.

Congratulations to the Midget Select Whitby Reds: Adam Bevis, Andrew Howald, Lucas Brannon, Riyad Samji, Hayden Flewelling, Zach Hagerman, Sawyer Larmand, Reegan MacLean, Calvin Rhodes, Curtis Rhodes and Justin Parker.  Coaches Clayton Rhodes and Dave Brannon.
