The Whitby Red Mosquito Select team wins the Gander Ross Tournament in Orillia!!

Updated Tuesday August 6, 2019 by Whitby Minor Baseball Association.

The Whitby Red Mosquito Select team traveled to Orillia to play in the Gander Ross Tournament over the August long weekend. The boys finished pool play with an incredible 3-0 record and headed into the quarter-finals as the number one seed. A sizzling offense was the linchpin to our success in our quarter-final match-up against a strong Waterdown squad. In the semi-finals, it was excellent pitching and stellar defense that helped the boys rally against Collingwood.

Whitby Reds faced the Muskoka Hornets for the championship. Strong pitching held the Reds to a 2-0 lead after three innings. Muskoka’s bats came alive in the fourth, resulting in 5 earned runs. The Reds rallied in the fifth, rolling through their entire order. Tough defense held off the Hornets sixth and seventh-inning assault. Whitby went on to win 12-6.

Shout out to the Whitby Blues, your support during the final inning was just what we needed to finish the game. The sense of community and friendly competition between the two teams is what makes Whitby Select baseball so amazing! Congratulations to the Blues for their Silver medal in the consolation finals.

A huge thank you to our coaches – this success could not have been possible without your support (and pitcher management!)

The boys look forward to capping off their incredible season with a final tournament in Sudbury later this month.
