The Bantam Elite Whitby Chiefs are Champs at 15U Eliminations!Updated Tuesday August 6, 2019 by Whitby Minor Baseball Association.
The Bantam 15U Elite Whitby Chiefs will represent Ontario at the Ray Carter Cup 15U Nationals in Oshawa from August 22nd- 25th after winning The Ontario Eliminations tournament this past weekend. The Whitby squad played eight games over four days in the double knock out tournament and were the last team standing after an exciting weekend of baseball in Mississauga.
Whitby began their quest on Friday morning with a tight 2-1 win over Etobicoke. The Chiefs would follow that up with their only loss of the tournament, dropping a 3-2 stinker to Oakville.
With one loss under their belt, every game for the rest of the tournament would be do or die. The Chiefs would go undefeated the rest of the way – starting with a victory over Scarborough (11-5) on Saturday morning. Whitby would go on to ring off victories against London (8-1), Vaughan (8-0), West Toronto (8-5) and Newmarket (18-2) which set up Monday mornings final against Riverside.
Both teams had one loss and the Chiefs entered the game without benefitting from a bye during the tournament, so Sunday’s game was Riverside’s seventh of the weekend, but Whitby’s eighth. The winner would be crowned Team Ontario.
Whitby would take the Championship game by a score of 8-2 against a very good squad. The Chiefs had great pitching, defence, and timely hitting all through the lineup on their way to becoming Team Ontario, and look forward to tons of local support at the 15U National Championship in Oshawa!
